"Pus Sakraat"


Whole India is celebrating the divine ritual of Makarsakraanti
Santhal tribal people are no different
they are celebrating "pus sakraat" festival of rejoice




Pus is a month in santhal calender. pus sakraat is celebrated at very last day of pus month.


throughtout the month of Pus santhal people enjoy going out to picnic to enjoy
some people might go to famous picnic spot cook and eat at places whereas some go in periphery of the village
like a riverbank and enjoy a picnic there.

on the very day of Pus Sakraat people mostly men get early up in morning
getogether at riverbanks, lite fire and sing folk songs
some people especially children have bath in river and warm themselves around fire


 


"Tusu immersion" 

Tusu or tusu bunga ( tusu lord) are the form of decorated structures made
by the santhali women

they are made out of paper , colors, decorative materials, flowers etc
each one want them to be more attractive more colourful

even in some villages they hold competitions of tusu making


 on the day of Pus Sakraat "tusu structure" are worshiped

on early morning or eve they took them to any river an immerse it to it


 



"sohrai" a fest of cattle and harvest

The tribal community of santhals just celebrated "Sohrai" the festival of cattle and harvest

tough sorhrai is celebrated by sathals in week of Diwali

but some in jharkhand and west bengal aslo celebrate it in month of Janurary

sohrai followed by dashai ( a santhal fest in dusshera) is a festival of worshiping cattles (cow,buffalo..)

at the morning men take cattle to graze

meanwhile the women in houses decorte the home



the cattles at the evening are warmly welcomed

horns and hoofs of cattle are marked "tikka" with oil diluted sindur



at eve-night people of village get together to dance

known as "lagdhe ainey" it is a form of traditional dance

unlike dashai ainey(dance) which is men-only dance ritual

in sohrai all men women can dance together

Santhal Disom

SANTHALS (also known as SANTAL , SONTHAL) is one of the largest tribal community of pre and post india.

over 6,050,000 of its population (via wikipedia) the community is widely spread of parts of
jharkhand, westbengal, bihar , odisha , assam .
